Kingfish est un groupe américain de Rock. Il a été fondé en 1973 par par Matthew Kelly, chanteur, guitariste et joueur d'harmonica. et le bassiste Dave Torbert du New Riders of the Purple Sage, Robbie Hoddinott, Chris Herold, and Mick Ward. Mick Ward est mort dans un accident un an plus tard.

En 1974, Bob Weir un long ami de temps de Matthew Kelly, a rejoint le groupe bande. (Matthew Kelly avait précédemment été un musicien invité sur l'album "Wake of the Flood" du Grateful Dead). Bob Weir a touné avec Kingfish et a participé aux deux premiers albums du groupe, "Kingfish" et "Live 'N' Kickin'". Quand Grateful Dead a commencé leur tounée en 1976, Bob Weir a quitté Kingfish.Matthew Kelly parti aux albums "Shakedown Street "and "The Closing of Winterland "du Grateful Dead , et "Bobby & the Midnites" de Bob Weir. En 1995 il est devenu un membre fondateur du groupe Weir's band Ratdog.

La composition du groupe se modifie avec Matthew Kelly et le Dave Torbert comme pilier. Dave Torbert est mort en 1983, Kingfish continuait ses tournée de temps en temps avec une évolution de sa composition mais toujours mené par Matthew Kelly. En 1987, Matthew Kelly a sorti un album solo appelé "A Wing and a Prayer". En 1999, Kingfish a sorti album studio, "Sundown on the Forest", enregistrée pendant sur plusieurs années avec combinaisons différentes de musiciens, y compris différentes

L'existence intermittente de Kingfish continue à l'époque actuelle.
