New Riders of the Purple Sage
New Riders of the Purple Sage est un groupe de country rock.Le groupe est parfois connu sous le nom de New Riders ou NRPS.
Histoire du groupe
Le groupe a émergé de la scène rock psychédélique de San Francisco, Californie de la volonté de John Dawson qui cherchait à faire interprété ses chansons et de Jerry Garcia qui voulait joué de sa pedal steel guitar . Ils ont d'abord joué dans les cafés et les petits clubs .Autour de leur musique c'est structuré le NRPS
Outre John Dawson et Jerry Garcia, les premiers membres du groupe comprenaient des futurs membres de Grateful Dead (Phil Lesh et Mickey Hart) et David Nelson un guitariste de country et de rock .
le NRPS a rapidement établi une identité indépendante grâce aux chansons originales de John Dawson. La bande a signé un contrat d'enregistrement en 1971 avec Columbia
NRPS a été dissous en 1982, après le départ de David Nelson
Le groupe a été reformé avec une formation construite autour de Gary Vogenson et Rusty Gautier.
