The ZB Fairlane was built from March 1968-July 1969. Just a facelift on the previous ZA, the first Fairlane to be designed and built in Australia. Earlier Fairlanes sold there were Australian assembled American cars. The ZB Fairlane was based on the 1968 XT Falcon, the facelift of the original 1967 XR Falcon. In 1967, the Australian designed and built Falcon got a completely new look, with its long nose and short tail Mustang styling. It retained the traditional round Falcon tail lamps and single headlight grille, like the earlier Falcons. The ZA and ZB got a twin headlight grille and square taillights, they were 127 mm longer in the wheelbase. They got a longer boot, the rear quarters and boot were borrowed from the American Galaxie, the rear seat was moved back for more leg room. The ZB was very similar to the ZA, taillights were revised, the rectangular indicator lens, replacing the circular one and badges were now metric also a different V8 badge. Base model was the Custom; 6 cyl and bench seat, the 500, still the upmarket model with V8, auto, chrome wheel arch moulds and bucket seats.
